National Exam: Quality Assessment or a Formality in the midst of a Pandemic?

In Indonesia, students are required to take part in the National Examination (UN), which serves as their final assessment. The conclusion of the second semester marks the annual UN in schools all around Indonesia. Yet, the COVID-19 epidemic has had a tremendous impact on the world of education and modified the way we carry out learning and evaluation procedures. The epidemic prevented the National Examination from taking place in 2020. But, the UN will take place once more in 2021 with a number of modifications and particular preparations that demand attention.

For the administration of the 2021 National Examination, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) has released a number of regulations and recommendations. The evaluation technique to be utilized is one of the rules established. In order to implement the UN, the Ministry of Education and Culture has chosen to employ the Computer Aided Test (CAT) technology. The CAT system incorporates computer technology, which will facilitate the student testing and evaluation procedure.

For the National Examination, the Ministry of Education and Culture has also created severe health guidelines. This is done to limit the risk of spreading COVID-19 in the educational environment. Checking body temperature, keeping a safe distance between pupils, wearing masks and face shields, and limiting the number of students in each exam are just a few of the health standards that have been enforced.

Yet, even if the Ministry of Education and Culture has made full preparations for the implementation of the UN, there are still a number of challenges that need correction. One of them is the issue with the UN's online presence's restricted access and technical challenges. Also, it is important to focus on pupils' capacity to comprehend and work on UN-related problems, particularly for those who have trouble studying because of the epidemic.

The issue of fraud is one more difficulty encountered in the National Examination's implementation. Although using computer technology to administer the National Examination can speed up the examination process, it also raises the possibility of fraud and unauthorized use of the software. Thus, to ensure integrity in the administration of the National Examination, tight oversight and supervision using cutting-edge technology must be carried out.

Important roles must be played by educators, parents, and the government as well in order to guarantee the UN's implementation. Instructors must make sure that students are prepared for the national exam and offer efficient tutoring. Children need parental support and motivation to do well on the national exam. The government must make sure that pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds have equal access to the National Examination.

In conclusion, the UN will take place once more in 2021 but with some particular modifications. Although using computers to administer the National Examination can speed up the examination process, it also introduces additional complications such as access centres, technical issues, and fraud. In order to ensure the success of the National Examination's implementation, it is essential for teachers, parents, and the government to play a significant role. It is hoped that with adequate cooperation and preparation, the 2021 National Examination will be correctly conducted and yield excellent results.
