Overcoming FOMO: The Phenomenon of Fear of Missing the Moment
Hello everyone. Have you ever been concerned about missing out on popular trends? Or have you ever felt insecure after viewing your friends' flawless lives on social media? There's a strong likelihood you're experiencing FOMO if you've ever felt it.
Fear of missing out, or FOMO as it is widely known, is a psychological condition when a person fears falling behind a particular trend. A person may experience the FOMO phenomenon in the form of a fear of missing out on new experiences, such as news, the hottest trends, or popular activities, and typically this occurs on social media. When someone perceives that the lives of those they observe on social media seem better than their own, they may experience this emotion.
This FOMO (fear of missing out) syndrome was also sparked by the usage of social media, which is expanding quickly. Knowing someone's personal life, as well as all of his pleasures and accomplishments, becomes simpler for us. Therefore, do not be shocked if we eventually compare our life to those of others. There are various other traits of someone who is experiencing the FOMO phenomenon in addition to those that were already stated. Following are a few signs that someone may be suffering from FOMO:
1. Always Check Gadgets
When someone is suffering from FOMO, they frequently check their device, even before going to sleep or right after waking up. For instance, he doesn't want to miss out on the most recent information or fashions. This can also occasionally happen as a result of hard-to-break habits.
2. Care More about Life on Social Media than Real Life
In addition to constantly checking their devices, those who suffer from FOMO also frequently strive to appear more impressive on social media, even though the reality is completely different. He did this in order to gain attention and admiration from others.
3. It's Hard to Refuse Other People's Invitations
FOMO sufferers can find it difficult to turn down invitations from other individuals. If he does not associate with his friends or those who he believes can enhance his quality of life, he will feel excluded. Despite the fact that he was uneasy in such setting. This frequently causes financial issues as well because of spending money above one's means on items that are genuinely unimportant under the pretense of staying up to date.
4. Always Want to Know Other People's Lives
Even though it's not always the case, someone who is constantly curious about other people's lives may be experiencing a dread of falling behind the curve (FOMO). This might be the case because he believes that his life isn't all that much better than others', thus he is curious about other people's lives and aspires to live like them. However, this isn't always a bad thing. Because occasionally being inspired by the lives of those who are significantly better off than we are might help us improve our own. It is different, though, if doing so actually worsens our feelings and causes us to lose gratitude for the life we had so far. If it truly causes us to be careless and ineffective, it is even worse. So, everything depends on how we respond to it.
Are you one of those who has experienced FOMO among these qualities? If you've already gone through it, you shouldn't be concerned. Here are some strategies for coping with FOMO since the fear of missing the moment (FOMO) may be defeated:
1. Limit the Time to Use Social Media
One can prevent feeling uncomfortable about trends or the pleasures of life displayed by others by limiting the amount of time spent on social media. You can achieve this by disabling notifications or restricting when you can access social media. It can be changed to fit your regular routine of activities.
2. Instill a Mindset that Social Media is Not Real Life
Remember that not everything you see on social media reflects reality. Similar to how other people's lives, which may not always reflect reality in the real world, are depicted. You should also be aware that what other people publish on social media is, of course, only what they believe to be positive and positive, and that we don't know what struggles and challenges they actually have in their daily lives.
3. Focus on Yourself
Everybody has their own experiences and accomplishments. There is no need to compare your life to others, even with all of a person's ups and downs; instead, concentrate on your own life and do your best.
4. Filter Content for Viewing
Not all social media posts can inspire a sense of being left behind. Social media is full with information that might pique our attention and inspire us to lead better lives. We must therefore choose and filter what information we are allowed to view and what information we ought to ignore. This is done to sharpen our attention on items that can improve our life.
5. Increase Gratitude
Develop the belief that God has given each of His slaves the best possible life. And God is fully aware of each of His servants' skills. Therefore, trust that your life is the best possible life for you and that you alone can live it.
In fact, FOMO is a phenomenon that commonly causes anxiety in us, and this usually results in the creation of mental health illnesses. Don't let it go if it's like this, friend. Anyone you trust can hear about your troubles.
